Overview
Ulcer Diabetic foot ulcers are open sores or wounds that develop on the feet of people with diabetes and can lead to serious complications. They are often caused by poor blood circulation, nerve damage, and/or poor foot care. If left untreated, diabetic foot ulcers can lead to serious infections, amputation, and even death. Early diagnosis and treatment of diabetic foot ulcers can help prevent these complications, and those with diabetes should monitor their feet daily for any changes. Proper foot care, including proper hygiene, regular foot exams, and wearing the right footwear, are essential in preventing and managing diabetic foot ulcers. If a diabetic foot ulcer does develop, doctors can prescribe antibiotics, wound care, or a referral to a specialist for advanced treatment.
