Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2
Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2 is a metabolic disorder that affects the body's ability to regulate blood sugar levels. It occurs when the body does not produce enough insulin, or does not use it effectively. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes, and is strongly associated with lifestyle factors such as lack of physical activity, obesity, and poor diet. People with Type 2 diabetes are at significantly increased risk of heart disease, stroke, and other serious health problems. Treatment includes lifestyle changes such as exercising regularly, eating a healthy diet, and maintaining a healthy weight, as well as medications such as insulin and oral medications to help control blood sugar. With proper management and treatment, people with Type 2 diabetes can lead healthy lives.
