Overview

Personality disorders refer to a group of mental health conditions in which an individual’s personality and behavior are significantly different from the expectations of their culture. This can cause significant impairment in social, occupational and other areas of functioning. Personality disorders can involve distorted thinking, troubled relationships and difficulty managing emotions. People with personality disorders may experience problems with self-esteem, difficulty regulating their emotions and difficulty managing stressful situations. Early detection and treatment are important for managing the symptoms of personality disorders and working towards symptom relief and improved functioning.
