Overview
Mental health is a state of psychological, emotional, and social well-being that affects how people think, feel, behave, and relate to others, and how they cope with stress and the demands of daily life. It is an integral part of overall health, influencing relationships, work, and physical well-being, and it exists on a continuum that ranges from flourishing to mental illness. Mental health is shaped by a combination of biological, psychological, social, and environmental factors, and good mental health supports resilience, productivity, and the capacity to manage adversity. Research in this journal, focused on behavior therapy and mental health, examines mental well-being across populations, settings, and conditions. Studies address stigma, compassion satisfaction, and compassion fatigue among mental health service providers, correlates of mental health in cancer survivors, frameworks for mental health and well-being, self-reported health outcomes in university students, and the mental effects of quarantine and social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additional work explores caregivers' knowledge of mental illness, self-monitoring in behavior change, mental stress among adolescent asylum seekers, the relationship between religion and mental health, and mental health disparities among LGBTQ+ youth. Key aspects of the field include the determinants of mental well-being, stigma and access to care, behavioral and therapeutic interventions, and the mental health of vulnerable and stressed populations.
