Overview
Depression is a mental health disorder characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, guilt, worthlessness, and hopelessness that interfere with daily life. It affects how a person feels, thinks, and behaves, and can lead to physical and emotional problems. Symptoms of depression can include changes in appetite, sleep patterns, difficulty concentrating, lack of energy, and difficulty finding pleasure in usual activities. It is an important public health issue, as it is the leading cause of disability worldwide and can have serious long-term consequences. Treatment for depression includes antidepressant medications, psychotherapy, and lifestyle changes. Early diagnosis and treatment are important for improving symptoms and reducing the risk of complications.
