Overview
Art therapy is an integrative mental health and psychotherapeutic approach that uses art materials and art making processes as its primary mode of intercourse between client and therapist. This form of therapy has been used to help people of all ages address physical, mental, and emotional difficulties, including depression, trauma, addiction, relationship issues, and much more. Research has shown that art therapy can have positive effects on brain activity, physical health, mental health, and emotional well-being. This can be seen through the reduction of stress, improvement of communication and social skills, and even the increase of self-esteem and self-awareness. Art therapy can be used both in individual and group settings, and has the potential to provide a powerful therapeutic tool that is both creative and constructive.
