Applied Behavior Analysis
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientifically validated approach for changing behavior that uses principles of learning to increase positive behaviors and reduce negative behaviors. It is increasingly being used in the treatment of autism, but can also be successfully applied to help individuals with other conditions, including those with developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, and other mental health challenges. ABA works by altering an individual’s environment to encourage desired behaviors and discourage undesired behaviors. ABA interventions are tailored to the individual’s specific needs and are implemented by trained and certified professionals. ABA has been used to help individuals modify and improve a wide range of behaviors and skills, including communication, feeding, toileting, and social skills.
