Overview
Traditional medicine refers to a system of healthcare practices that have been used for centuries in many cultures around the world. It is based on the use of plants, minerals and other natural ingredients to help prevent, diagnose and treat medical conditions. Traditional medicine is highly significant as it is often the only source of healthcare available in many parts of the world, especially in developing countries. Additionally, traditional medicine has been used to inform and support the development of modern healthcare systems. Its uses range from providing a safe alternative to modern medicine in cases where it is not available, to being a source of inspiration for new treatments and therapies. In many cases, traditional medicine is an effective, low-cost and accessible way to promote health and well-being.
