Monohydric Alcohols

Monohydric alcohols are organic compounds containing one hydroxyl group and are formulated as CnH2n+1OH. Alcohols are the most abundant organic molecules in natural systems and are used in a variety of applications. In addition to being used as a fuel source, they have many commercial uses in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, plastics, personal care products, as solvents, and in agriculture. They are also used as food preservatives and flavorings. Monohydric alcohols have a lower boiling point than dihydric alcohols, making them excellent solvents for many products. They are also miscible in water, making them ideal for use in many products. Monohydric alcohols are an important component of many medical and personal care products, including antiseptics, birth control products, ointments, and cleaning agents.
