Amino Alcohols

Amino alcohols are organic compounds composed of an amino group and an alcohol group. They are used in a variety of applications, including as solvents and in reactions to synthesize drugs, agrochemicals, and surfactants. Their amphipathic nature means they can act as surfactants in cleaning products, disperse dyes in dyeing processes, and increase the efficiency of herbicides and other pesticides. Amino alcohols can also act as ligands or catalysts for a range of biochemical and medicinal processes. The biological significance of amino alcohols lies in their ability to bind to cell membranes and regulate the flow of ions in and out of cells. This is important for controlling the pH and signal transduction inside and outside the cell.
