Overview
Mental health refers to a person's emotional, psychological, and social well-being, encompassing the ability to manage stress, relate to others, and make decisions across the lifespan. Research published in Aging Research And Healthcare examines mental health through multiple interconnected dimensions, including the psychological experiences of specific populations facing health challenges such as cancer survivors and their families, the mental well-being of healthcare providers themselves who experience compassion fatigue and stigma while delivering psychiatric care, and the influence of broader social determinants including religion, social capital, and community-level factors on mental health outcomes. The journal has explored mental health disparities affecting vulnerable groups such as LGBTQ+ youth, climate migrant women in urban slums, and elderly individuals navigating social isolation, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additional work addresses interventions designed to support mental health, from community-based mentoring programs for school-aged children to psychoeducation support groups for partners of veterans with mental health difficulties. This body of research underscores that mental health is shaped by individual characteristics, family dynamics, community resources, and systemic factors, requiring multifaceted approaches to understanding and promoting psychological well-being across diverse populations and contexts.
