Pharmacognosy and Pharmacology of Medicinal Plants
Pharmacognosy and pharmacology of medicinal plants are two branches of science aimed at studying and understanding the therapeutic value of plants and their active compounds. These disciplines are playing a key role in the advancement of medicinal plants as natural sources of drugs. Pharmacognosy is the study of the physical, chemical, biochemical, and biological properties of drugs, their sources, composition, structure, and other aspects of their use for medicinal purposes. Pharmacology, on the other hand, is the science of drug action, including their interactions with living organisms and the human body. Together, these two fields of study are helping to unlock the potential of medicinal plants and their active compounds, which is expected to lead to advancements in traditional medicine, as well as the development of new drugs.
