Alkaloids
Alkaloids are a group of organic compounds found in plants that have nitrogen-containing structures and possess physiological effects. They have a wide variety of uses, from medical applications to flavoring and coloring in food and drink products. Alkaloids are known to have a range of therapeutic effects and have been used for centuries in traditional medicine. Their main physiological effects are due to their ability to act as stimulants, depressants, and toxins. They are known to have antispasmodic, analgesic, sedative, hypnotic and antiarrhythmic properties, and are commonly used in the treatment of various conditions, such as insomnia and circulatory disorders. Alkaloids are also used as flavorings and colorants in food and drink products.
