Overview

Pharmacology is the branch of science that studies how drugs and other chemical substances interact with living systems. It is broadly divided into pharmacodynamics, the study of how a drug affects the body and produces its effects through targets such as receptors and enzymes, and pharmacokinetics, the study of how the body absorbs, distributes, metabolizes, and eliminates a drug. Pharmacology underpins the discovery, development, and rational use of medicines, providing knowledge of mechanisms of action, dosing, efficacy, drug interactions, and adverse effects, and it increasingly draws on computational and systems-level approaches such as network pharmacology to predict how compounds act across multiple molecular targets. Research published in Advanced Therapeutic Science reflects this breadth; work in the journal's record includes network-pharmacology-based prediction of therapeutic targets, studies of drug design across in silico, in vitro, and in vivo stages, investigations of the hypolipidemic effects of plant compounds compared with statins, structure-activity analysis of natural-product inhibitors of cyclin-dependent kinase 4, dose-response studies of isolated saponins, work in psychopharmacology, and an evaluation of a calcium-channel-blocker combination in hypertension. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to pharmacology and the science of drug action and development.
