Overview

Rheumatology is the medical specialty that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal diseases and conditions, particularly arthritis. One of the most common types of arthritis is Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). It is an autoimmune disorder characterized by inflammation of the joints, which causes swelling, stiffness, and pain. RA is both progressive and disabling, and can potentially lead to disability if left untreated. Treatment options depend on the severity of the condition and may include medications, therapies, lifestyle modifications, and, in some cases, surgery. With early diagnosis and proper management, however, individuals with RA can often have a good quality of life.
