Analytical Science

In the field of pharmaceuticals, analytical science encompasses a wide range of techniques used for the testing, analysis and quality control of various drugs and formulations. It is a multidisciplinary approach that involves the use of chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology and physics to develop effective drugs and treatments. The analytical techniques used in pharmaceutical science are constantly evolving with the advancements in technology. Some of the common techniques used in analytical science include chromatography, spectroscopy, electrophoresis, mass spectrometry and chemical assays. Chromatography is widely used to separate complex mixtures in order to identify individual components. Spectroscopy, on the other hand, is used to study the interactions of drugs with light and radiation. Electrophoresis can be used to separate and quantify proteins and nucleic acids. Mass spectrometry helps in detecting the molecular weight of drugs, which in turn aids in the identification of drug candidates. Chemical assays play an important role in drug development by providing information about the purity, potency and stability of a drug. The analytical scientists in the pharmaceutical industry work closely with the drug development team to ensure that the drugs are safe and effective. They also play a critical role in ensuring that the drugs meet the regulatory standards. In conclusion, analytical science is an important branch of pharmaceutical science and technology that plays a vital role in the development and quality control of drugs. By utilizing various analytical techniques, scientists can identify potential drug candidates and ensure that the approved drugs are safe and effective.
