Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis

Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (PAGE) is a form of gel electrophoresis used to separate charged molecules such as proteins and nucleic acids in a solution. The molecules are separated by size due to their different rates of migration through the gel matrix in an electrical field. It is a powerful tool used in biochemistry and molecular biology to determine the size, shape, charge, and composition of molecules. PAGE is also used to analyze tissue and cell extracts, isolate secreted proteins, and to purify certain molecules. PAGE is an invaluable tool for scientists in figuring out the biological functions of molecules and identifying potential drugs and other therapeutic agents.
