Overview
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurological disorder that affects a person's ability to pay attention, control impulsive behaviors, and control their activity level. Symptoms typically begin in childhood and can continue into adulthood, causing difficulties in school, work and/or relationships. Treatment often includes prescription medication, psychotherapy, behavior therapy, and lifestyle changes. Studies have shown that early, comprehensive treatment for ADHD is more effective than waiting for the symptoms to persist before seeking help. Thus, ADHD has significant implications for academic and occupational success, and early diagnosis and treatment are essential to minimize long-term consequences.
