Uses of Animal Parts
in Traditional Chinese Medicine Animal parts are used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for a variety of therapeutic purposes. It is believed that various animal parts possess various properties that can help to improve overall health, balance the body's energy, and alleviate various symptoms. Animal parts are typically divided into three main categories; body parts such as horns, antlers, bones, and fur; extracts such as gallbladder and other secretions; and organs like heart, liver, and gallbladder. For example, deer antlers are believed to have the power to improve the circulation of Qi (energy) throughout the body and to boost the immune system. Tiger bones are believed to boost the immune system and ease joint pain. Animal parts are also used to treat various internal illnesses such as allergies, stomach pain, and respiratory issues. They are also believed to balance the body's Yin and Yang energy and help with general wellness. By combining animal parts with other herbs, TCM practitioners can create custom formulas that are tailored to an individual's needs.
