Strongyloides Stercoralis

Strongyloides stercoralis is a small, parasitic nematode that can infect humans and cause a wide range of health problems. It is a leading cause of neglected tropical diseases and endemic in many parts of the world, particularly in the South-East Asia Pacific region. Infection can occur through skin contact with soil or faeces contaminated with the larvae, and it is estimated that around 100 million people worldwide are infected. Symptoms vary but can include abdominal pain, diarrhoea, rashes, and cough, and complications can include malnutrition, seizures and organ damage. Treatment for Strongyloides stercoralis infection is available and has been proven to be effective. It is important to diagnose and treat this infection as early as possible to prevent long-term health problems.
