Specimen Preservation

Specimen preservation is the process of preserving a biological specimen, such as a plant or animal, in order to study it in the future. Preservation techniques vary depending on the specimen and may include drying, pickling, freezing, or using chemicals such as alcohols. Preserved specimens are used for a variety of scientific, medical, and educational uses, including research and taxonomy. Specimen preservation is a critical part of conservation and research efforts, as it allows for the maintenance of species and their diversity, as well as for the recording and tracking of changes in organisms over time. It can also be used to track the spread of diseases or environmental contaminants.
