Rattlesnakes
Rattlesnakes are a group of venomous snakes found in North, Central, and South America. They are identified by their characteristic "rattle" on the end of their tails used to warn potential predators. Rattlesnake venoms vary in composition and effects, depending on the species. Some venom may act as a neurotoxin, leading to muscle paralysis or death, whereas other venom may produce anticoagulant, anti-inflammatory and/or other tissue effects. Rattlesnake venom has practical medical and scientific uses, including medical research, antivenom production, and even treating certain medical conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, clotting disorders, and high blood pressure.
