Pseudodiverticulosis

Pseudodiverticulosis is a condition characterized by the presence of colonic mucosal outpouchings on the bowel wall which can appear similar to true diverticulosis. It is important to distinguish pseudodiverticulosis from true diverticulosis as the management and prognosis of the two conditions are different. Pseudodiverticulosis can be caused by a number of underlying factors such as inflammatory processes, edematous states, and/or ischemia. Treatment for pseudodiverticulosis primarily involves addressing the underlying cause and managing any symptoms. Additionally, imaging studies such as colonoscopy or CT scans may be done to confirm the diagnosis of pseudodiverticulosis and guide treatment.
