Peromyscus

leucopus Peromyscus leucopus, commonly known as the White-footed Mouse, is a rodent species that is widely distributed across the United States and into Central America. This species is an important agricultural pest and can cause significant damage to crops, as well as to lawns and gardens. Due to its high reproductive rate and ability to adapt to habitats, Peromyscus leucopus is an abundant and successful species, and is also an important model organism for studies of mammalian genetics. Additionally, this species is a key host for certain human and agricultural diseases, most notably Lyme disease, and it is important to understand more about this species to better manage the potential disease outbreaks.
