Parasitology
Parasitology is the scientific study of parasites, which can be organisms or viruses. Parasites cause diseases, or influence the behavior or metabolism of the host organism to benefit their own survival. Parasitology is an important field of medicine, as it has a huge impact on public health, food safety, and wildlife conservation. For example, parasites can spread quickly through entire populations and can contribute to malnutrition, food insecurity, and even death. Parasitologists use a variety of techniques such as microscopy, immunology, parasitological surveys, and molecular biology tools to diagnose, treat, and prevent the spread of parasitological diseases. In addition, research in parasitology can help scientists understand other infectious diseases, such as HIV/AIDS.
