Helminthology

Helminthology is the scientific study of worms and other parasites that live on, in, or inside of animals and humans. It includes the collection, identification, and study of the ecology, physiology, and behavior of helminths. Helminthology is important for diagnosing and treating parasitic diseases in humans, and for controlling and preventing the spread of parasitic worms in animals, which can have a major impact on public health and food security. Helminthology also plays a role in conservation, as some parasites can be used as indicators of ecosystem health, and can help identify and monitor species decline, object of conservation efforts.
