Epizootics

Epizootics are large-scale disease outbreaks in animal populations. They can have a significant economic and environmental impact, particularly if the outbreak is caused by a pathogen that can spread from animals to humans, such as avian influenza. To reduce the risk of outbreaks, epizootic surveillance programs are developed to detect and respond quickly to diseases of animals, including those that may be zoonotic. These programs can include monitoring of disease occurrences and the identification of susceptible species or populations. Through early detection and aggressive interventions, epizootic surveillance programs can help protect animal and human health.
