Crocodiles

Crocodiles are ancient, large reptiles found in tropical and subtropical regions around the world. They are recognized for their long, muscular tail, scaly skin and powerful jaws. Along with their relatives, alligators and caimans, crocodiles are apex predators, meaning they are at the top of the food chain and have no natural predators themselves. They are essential to the natural balance of their habitats, as they prey on other animals, keeping the populations of their prey in check. Crocodiles are often considered a vulnerable species, due to loss of habitat, illegal hunting, and the sale of their skin and meat. As such, they are monitored and protected in various parts of the world.
