Ciona Intestinalis

Ciona intestinalis is a marine invertebrate of the ascidian family. It is often referred to as the "sea squirt" due to its squirt-like appearance and behavior. Ciona intestinalis is ecologically important as it plays a key role in the food chain, providing food for a variety of species such as fish, crabs, and seabirds. It is a model organism used by researchers to study development, stem cell biology, and immune responses. Ciona intestinalis is also used in biotechnology due to its simple genome, fast reproductive cycle, and ability to produce large numbers of offspring. Thus, this species has numerous applications in commercial aquaculture, biomedicine, and biotechnology.
