Animal Models of Disease
Animal models are laboratory animals in which diseases can be studied. They are used to identify and investigate genetic, environmental and behavioural causes of human diseases, and to find new treatments. Animal models are also used to understand disease processes, to screen potential new drugs and therapies, to assess the safety of new treatments and to evaluate the efficacy of existing treatments. Animal models are essential in the development of medical breakthroughs, and have improved our understanding of how diseases work and how to better treat them.
