Acarology

Acarology is the scientific study of mites and ticks. Mites and ticks are small and easily overlooked, yet they are incredibly important to the environment and human health. Acarologists are scientists who are dedicated to researching and understanding mites and ticks, their diversity, their life cycles, and their impacts on humans. Mites and ticks can be beneficial, causing harm to plants and animals, or even transmitting diseases like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Through research, acarologists help improve our understanding and attempts at controlling these pest species. Additionally, acarology provides vital data for worldwide pest control strategies and can help develop methods for protecting humans, plants, and animals from harmful mites and ticks.
