Neurotoxicology
Neurotoxicology is a sub-discipline of toxicology and is concerned with the study of the adverse effects of chemicals and other neurotoxins on the nervous system. Neurotoxicology is important in understanding the potential effects of occupational and environmental exposures, particularly where conditions of chronic exposure are of concern. It is also used to evaluate potential damage to the nervous system caused by prescription and non-prescription drugs, as well as chemical agents in the atmosphere. Neurotoxicology is used to help identify and treat neurological disorders, assess the risks from neurotoxins, and develop strategies for prevention and control.
