Military Psychiatry
Military Psychiatry is a specialist medical discipline focused on the mental health and well-being of military personnel, veterans and their families. It helps to promote resilience and adaptation in service members and veterans to reduce the incidence of psychological health presentations, such as PTSD, depression, anxiety and substance misuse. Military psychiatry also provides treatment and resources to those in need, as well as supports a range of research projects to develop evidence-based approaches in managing mental health issues in those in the military. In addition, military psychiatry works to improve the understanding of military culture and the unique challenges it can bring to service members and their families. Ultimately, the field of military psychiatry is essential in improving the mental health, resilience, and quality of life of those who serve or have served in the military.
