Menstrual Cycle

The menstrual cycle is a regular monthly process that occurs in females of reproductive age. During the menstrual cycle, the uterus builds up a lining of blood and tissue in preparation for a possible pregnancy. If no pregnancy occurs, the uterus sheds the lining, and the cycle begins again about two weeks later. The menstrual cycle is a vital part of a woman’s reproductive health and plays a role in fertility. During the cycle hormones are released that influence the growth and development of the reproductive organs, which in turn prepares the body for pregnancy. Regular and healthy menstrual cycles can help women understand their fertility and plan pregnancies better.
