Liaison Psychiatry
Liaison Psychiatry is a type of psychiatry which focuses on providing psychological support and interventions for those who have a physical health condition. Liaison Psychiatrists work in collaboration with a general hospital team to provide mental health care both within the hospital itself, as well as in the patient's home or in the community. Liaison Psychiatry is important for providing an integrated approach to treating both physical and mental health issues, thus improving overall health outcomes for patients. Examples of interventions provided by Liaison Psychiatrists include assessment of mental health, risk assessment and management, psycho-educational interventions, and providing psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatments. Liaison Psychiatry is a valuable resource for providing person-centred and holistic care that can improve the wellbeing of individuals suffering from physical health conditions.
