Impulsivity

Impulsivity is a behavioral trait characterized by acting on impulse in the absence of thought or planning. It is a personality trait that is related to attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), substance abuse, bipolar disorder, and other psychiatric conditions. Impulsivity is also associated with increased risk of engaging in risky behaviors, such as substance use and other self-destructive activities. Research has suggested that interventions that target impulsivity could help improve mood, reduce problematic behaviors, improve quality of life, and reduce the risk of developing mental health conditions in people with impulsivity. As such, impulsivity is an important trait to consider when it comes to understanding and managing mental health risks.
