Cross-Cultural Psychiatry
Cross-cultural psychiatry is an interdisciplinary field that examines the interaction between mental health, cultural influences and influences from the environment. Cross-cultural psychiatrists aim to understand how mental health is affected by culture and how aspects of cultural difference can be used to help individuals and communities access mental health care. Cross-cultural psychiatry is essential in providing culturally sensitive mental health care and addressing disparities in access and outcomes across different cultural contexts. Cross-cultural psychiatrists can provide training and support for healthcare providers to ensure that individuals from different cultural backgrounds receive appropriate mental health care. Cross-cultural psychiatry also contributes to research that aims to increase our understanding of mental health from a global perspective.
