Tropical Regions

Tropical regions are areas of the world located between the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn and characterized by warm temperatures and large amounts of rainfall. These regions are home to a wealth of biodiversity, including numerous plant and animal species not found elsewhere. Tropical regions contribute to global economies through the production of natural resources and commodities, such as timber, fish, cacao, bananas and coffee. They also support tourism, providing unique and exotic experiences, and are important for the conservation of biological diversity. Tropical regions are vulnerable to the effects of climate change, however, making it important to identify and protect these critical habitats.
