Swamps

Swamps are wetlands that are flooded with fresh, brackish, or salt water. They have slow-moving streams or rivers and shallow water that harbor a variety of vegetation and wildlife. Swamps are some of the richest ecosystems on earth due to their high levels of biodiversity and productivity. They are home to fish, shrimp, herons, snakes, frogs, and other aquatic and terrestrial species. They also provide valuable resources such as building materials, fuel, and food. Swamps also play an important role in reducing the impacts of flooding by storing and slowly releasing excess water. They are also important in terms of providing recreational opportunities, carbon storage, and habitat for a variety of species.
