Peromyscus

leucopus Peromyscus leucopus, commonly referred to as the white-footed mouse, is a species of rodent native to much of North America. It is an important species in many areas, being used by researchers as an animal model due to its large body size, short generation time, and easy availability. Its small size and prolific reproduction make it an effective competitor against many other species in terms of food and habitat, meaning it has been known to affect the populations of other animals in its range. Additionally, this species has been identified as a vector for some diseases, including Lyme disease, which it can spread by carrying the larvae of its primary vector, the deer tick. Due to its widespread range, this species is also an important indicator of environmental health. By monitoring its abundance and population dynamics, scientists are able to gain insight into the overall health of an environment.
