Tsunamis
A tsunami is a large, powerful wave usually caused by a large-scale underwater earthquake, landslide or volcanic eruption. It can cause immense destruction to coastal regions and underwater structures, as it is characterized by a rapid rise in ocean level and strong currents. Tsunamis can travel thousands of miles away from the source and occur in any ocean basin; they can be a threat in any coastal region of the world. Early detection and effective warning systems are essential to avoid catastrophic damage and casualties.
