Theoretical Climatology
Theoretical Climatology is the scientific field dedicated to the formulation of theories, models and solutions to explain climate processes and the characteristics of the Earth's climate system. This field of climatology is important because it provides an analytical framework of the Earth's climate system to better understand the behavior of various climate parameters and how climate dynamics impacts various components of the natural environment. It is used to model the observed climate patterns and to discern the effects of various atmospheric, oceanic and land-based phenomena on global climate. Theoretical Climatology is useful for understanding the influence of man-made activities on the environment, as well as for developing new strategies for detecting, assessing and managing risk related to extreme climate events.
