Hurricanes
A hurricane is a type of tropical cyclone, characterized by a spiral arrangement of thunderstorms and intense winds. Hurricanes are among the most damaging and destructive storms on Earth and form over warm oceans in tropical regions. They are powered by the energy released when moist air rises and forms cumulus clouds and thunderstorms. Hurricanes cause flooding, high winds, storm surges and tornadoes. They can cause extensive damage to human infrastructure, agricultural land, and marine habitats, as well as cause death and injury to humans and other animals. Hurricanes are monitored and forecasted by specialized agencies and have become more predictable in recent years due to advances in technology and understanding of their formation. As a result, people are better able to prepare for their impacts and reduce the risk of loss of life and property damage.
