Autumn

olive Autumn olive (Elaeagnus umbellata) is a deciduous shrub native to China and parts of Asia, but naturalized in other areas such as the United States. It grows rapidly in disturbed habitats and produces edible fruits that are high in antioxidants. The fruits are tart and can be eaten raw or processed into jams, jellies, and sauces. Autumn olive has been used in restoration projects to help restore degraded lands, as it is able to tolerate a wide range of soil and moisture conditions. The species also benefits wildlife, providing food and cover for birds, small mammals, and other animals.
