Urban Water

Cycle The urban water cycle is a system of how water is cycled through the environment in populated areas. It is important for maintaining a healthy environment and for providing a reliable supply of clean water for drinking and irrigation. The urban water cycle begins when water from rain, snow or melted ice collects on impermeable surfaces such as roads or rooftops. This runoff is then diverted to sewage systems which transport the water to a treatment plant. After being treated, it is then either released into nearby rivers, streams or lakes, or is diverted for irrigation or other uses. The cycle continues as the water evaporates, rises into the atmosphere and eventually falls in the form of rain or snow, starting the cycle over again. The urban water cycle is essential for managing the water resources in cities, towns and other areas of high population density.
