Rivers and Estuaries Hydrology
Rivers and estuaries hydrology is the study of the water cycle within a river or estuary system and how it affects the environment. It includes the dynamics of precipitation, evaporation, runoff, streamflow, and the exchange of materials and energy with the atmosphere, soils and sediments. Understanding rivers and estuary hydrology is important for managing their health, as freshwater ecosystems are incredibly diverse and provide essential habitat for biodiversity. Hydrologic research helps assess the impact of human activities, such as pollution and land-use changes, and informs decision-making to protect and conserve these essential bodies of water.
