Language Interference
Language interference is the phenomenon of transfer of elements from one language, such as a first language, to another, such as a second language. It can manifest itself through errors in speech, writing and comprehension. Language interference has significant implications for language learning; it can hinder the development of language proficiency in a second language, as the use of words or structures from a first language negatively interferes with the accurate production of the target language. However, language interference can also have a positive influence on second language acquisition, as it can help to transfer knowledge and provide a memory aid when learning a second language. Thus, it is important for language learners and teachers to be aware of the effects of language interference for better language acquisition.
