Emergence

Emergence is the process by which collective behavior arises out of the interactions of numerous individual components. Emergence is exhibited in many natural processes and has been studied extensively in fields such as physics, chemistry, biology, economics and sociology. It has also been used to explain the observed collective behavior of complex systems, like the behavior of ant colonies, flocks of birds or fields of cells. Understanding emergence can help us to answer questions about how collective behavior emerges in natural systems, such as how individual neurons in our brain can give rise to complex thought or how simple cooperations between organisms lead to complex ecological systems. Emergence has practical applications in many fields such as robotics, AI and economics, where it can be leveraged to control and predict the behavior of complex systems.
