H2 Receptor Blockers
H2 receptor blockers are a type of medication used to reduce the production of stomach acid. These blockers act on histamine type 2 (H2) receptors, which are found in the cells of the gastric mucosa, the lining of the stomach. By blocking the action of histamine, H2 receptor blockers are able to reduce the amount of stomach acid produced, thereby helping to prevent or relieve conditions caused by excess acid, such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, acid reflux, and esophagitis. Additionally, these blockers have been used to treat some allergic reactions and as an aid in the prevention of aspiration pneumonia. As such, H2 receptor blockers are an important form of medication used to alleviate a variety of gastrointestinal ailments.
