Gastric Resection
Gastric resection is a surgical procedure to remove part of the stomach (also known as the “gastric resection”). It is most often used to treat stomach and esophagus problems, including cancer, ulcers and obstruction. The procedure is performed by a surgeon who makes an incision in the stomach and removes a portion of it, depending on the type of problem being treated. As a result, the patient experiences improved digestion and nutrient absorption. Gastric resection can also be used to help people who are overweight or obese lose weight by reducing their stomach size. In some cases, a gastric bypass procedure may be performed, where the stomach is divided into two parts. This can help increase the feeling of fullness and decrease appetite, leading to weight loss.
